Q: Is a 1998 Lexus SC400 first sold in Tennesee equipped to pass California's Emission Control Test?
A: Easy to tell. Just look under the hood near the radiator area for the tag with all the info. It will be the one that gives the engine size, car year, etc. On that tag will be the line "This vehicles conforms to all Federal and California emission requirements for the year 1998 if it is California certified. If it just says Federal then it is not. Works on all cars sold in this country from 1968 forward. They have to "specifically" state California for it to be so. Only exception I know is that some are reputed to have the wording of "all 50 states" but haven't seen that myself.
Q: how can i get my driver side door out of the lock position so i can close the door on a 95 lexus sc400?
I cant close the door because the driver side door is in the lock position and i cant pull it back. I also will not unlock when i use the remote. what do i do?
A: Older cars often had this problem.I'm surprised that your car did.I thought this was a mechanical problem solved long ago.however, maybe the old solution will work on your newer car.when I had this problem,I would manually lift the "lock mechanism" itself. You will find it in the down position. It's sometime pretty stiff and you may need a tool to lift it and make it snap in the open position and also watch your fingers.worth a try.
Q: How do I remove the film off my headlights on my 1992 Lexus sc400. I would like to have them clear>???
A: I'd just take it to an auto detailing shop and tell them to try clearing it out. It could require a little bit of work, since it might need to be cleaned from the inside too.

Private message member "Aliga" and tell him you need whatever part you need. He is the biggest distributer of Lexus SC parts in the US by far and has done business with hundreds of members. I personally bought from him so I can speak from experience. Just check the classified section of the forums and you will see his name there because he always sells parts or parts out several cars to people. Good luck.
Q: Easy way to get to starter on a lexus sc400?
Is there any easy way to get to my starter on my sc400? Instead of taking a 6 hour job? I just need to get to it so i can tap on it a couple times because of a stuck solenoid.. Do you access from under the car or on top?
A: Sorry, there is no easy way to get to the starter. The only way to get to the starter is to remove the primary and secondary intake manifolds- the gray beehive looking thing in the middle of the engine. This is not an easy job, even for experienced technicians. Given the age of any sc (98 being the last year for that model) all the hoses and connectors, more than likely, are brittle and will break. It would probably be best to get this vehicle to the dealership or somebody that specializes in Lexus to get the starter replaced.
Q: I have a 92 lexus sc400 and when i shift into reverse it make a clunking noise other then that it drives good.?
any ideas on what it is and how much the parts cost?
A: Most likely bad U-Joints on the drive shaft. Easy to verify by checking the front and rear U-Joint for looseness.
Q: How do you change a starter on a 1992 Lexus SC400? I already have the throttle body and intake loose.?
A: You are on the right track. On this engine, it is actually located towards the back of the valley of the block under the lower intake. You need to remove the upper and lower intakes and all of the linkages, gaskets and covers that go with them. The labor time is approx 5 hours so that is going to be a decent job. Good luck. PS, there is an EGR tube in the back incase you are fighting with pulling out the intake.
Q: Can a 1992 Lexus SC400 fit a standard wheelchair in the trunk?
I gotta know. Please, its for a possible good deed if it works out, it'll be good karma for you too.
A: I drive a lexus and my mother has a wheelchair which fits in the boot (trunk as you call it!) but we have to take the little feet off the chair first to make it fit. The only hassle I have had with it is damage to the paintwork as the lip of the boot is a bit high for swinging the heavy chair in and I'm not that big and strong!
Car is old now though so I don't respect it as much as I did when it was new.
Q: How much would a timing belt & water pump run for a 93 lexus sc400??
A: Go to advanceautoparts.com and look up your vehicle. It should give you a pretty close est.
Q: What is faster between a Lexus SC400 and a Chevrolet Camaro Z-28?
Curious and I can't find the answer.
A: I can answer this from experience as a friend had a Z28 w/ the corvette package 6 speed manual. I was in a 98' GS400 which is the same engine as the SC400.
0-50, the Camaro had me down n out, by almost 2 car lengths. I was in a Lexus after all, they are not meant to snap your neck off. 50-75mph, I sat beside him waving to him. 75-100mph, He was starring at my rear quarter panel, 100+ it was nothing but the Lexus pulling away, even still pulling at 145mph.
If you track down the stats on both cars, and line them up, they are almost 100% identical. Just gearing is different for most part and the Lexus will normally handle the curves better, as it does have 16 some computers controlling the suspension, lean, yaw, etc.
Basic city driving, Camaro will win, once moving, freeway or anywhere else, the Lexus will always be ahead.
Q: My lexus sc400 engine cut off while driving;couldn't restart it?
